Dreams and goals are central to who we are as human beings.  You were created on purpose with a specific purpose.  We’ve crafted a few simple questions to help you figure out what that purpose is if you’re not quite sure yet.  These questions need to be asked not only to yourself, but to God and also those who know you well.  As with anything, begin prayerfully.  God will guide you on this journey; it’s what He made you for!

  • What am I naturally good at? – Think about the things that come easily to you.  This may be a talent or personality trait that you already possess.  Ask someone who knows you well what they believe your gift is.  Sometimes it is difficult to answer this question for ourselves.
  • What am I passionate about/What do I love to do? – Yes, you may be tempted to say football or shopping, but try and look deeper.
  • If money were no object, what would I do? – Because we often feel exhaustion and weariness in life, our first thought is probably to say “Fly off to an island where I can lay on the beach all day.”  You would get tired of this quickly, so ask yourself again “After I lay on the beach for two weeks, THEN what would I want do/accomplish/be.”
  • What one problem in my world (this can mean your family/community/or the global community) do I see that needs to be resolved? – Focus on one thing first.  If there is something on your mind often, or that you get very passionate about when you see, it is probably because you’re supposed to do something about it!

Then you ask the questions that will help you get on the path to reaching that goal.  These are questions you ask yourself and God.  They should be considered prayerfully and answered truthfully.

  • Where am I at right now? – It is important to take stock of your current position in life, your relationship with God, your relationships with others, your work, your finances, and your dream.
  • Where do I want to end up? – This question can be answered in time increments (i.e. one year, five years, ten years).
  • What tools will I need to help me get there? – Tools may include things like knowledge, schooling, practice, networking, finances.
  • What step(s) can I take today and every day after this to work towards this happening? – Action is an essential part of getting to where God wants you to be.
  • Who will hold me accountable to fulfilling this goal with integrity and consistency? – We all need someone in our lives to encourage us as we pursue a goal and sometimes help us get back up when we stumble on the road to getting there.  Pick someone who is a positive influence and who can see you accomplishing this goal.

Looking at a dream or a vision that God has placed inside you can be overwhelming.  Take it one day and one step at a time.  No, you may not be able to do something huge right now, but do something small everyday and eventually, you’ll get there!
